Art at The Haven
At The Haven, our Art and Design curriculum is rooted in the National Curriculum and designed to inspire creativity, confidence, and self-expression. Pupils explore a wide range of techniques including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, while learning about artists and cultural traditions from around the world.
Art is taught across three terms each year, with a focus on developing key skills through practical, inclusive, and exploratory lessons. Children use sketchbooks to generate ideas, experiment with materials, and reflect on their progress. A spiral curriculum ensures that skills are revisited and built upon with increasing complexity.
By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils will:
- Create imaginative and purposeful artwork.
- Demonstrate proficiency in a range of artistic techniques.
- Evaluate and discuss art using subject-specific vocabulary.
- Understand the historical and cultural development of art and design.
