Computing at The Haven 

At The Haven, Computing is a dynamic and essential part of our curriculum, equipping children with the skills and understanding they need to thrive in a digital world. We aim to develop confident, responsible, and creative users of technology who can apply their knowledge across a range of contexts. 

Our curriculum is structured around three key strands: 

• Computer Science – Children learn how digital systems work and develop their programming skills through logical reasoning, problem-solving, and hands-on coding projects. 

• Information Technology – Pupils create digital content, analyse and present data, and explore how technology can be used to solve real-world problems. 

• Digital Literacy – We teach children how to use technology safely and respectfully, with a strong emphasis on online safety, privacy, and responsible behaviour. 

Computing is taught weekly across all year groups, using a variety of devices and software to support learning. Each year begins with a focus on online safety, which is revisited regularly to ensure children understand how to navigate the digital world securely and responsibly. 

Our curriculum is progressive and inclusive, allowing pupils to build on prior knowledge and develop increasingly sophisticated skills. From creating pictograms and animations in Key Stage 1 to designing games, coding simulations, and exploring artificial intelligence in Key Stage 2, children are encouraged to be curious, collaborative, and resilient. 

Computing is closely linked with other subjects such as Maths, Science, Design & Technology, and PSHE, providing meaningful opportunities for cross-curricular learning. We also explore real-world applications of technology, including spreadsheets, databases, blogging, and digital presentations. 

We monitor the impact of our Computing curriculum through pupil voice, assessment, and regular subject reviews, ensuring that every child leaves The Haven with the digital skills and understanding needed for the future.
