PSHE at The Haven

PSHE at The Haven

At The Haven, we are committed to nurturing the personal, social, and emotional development of every child through a carefully planned and progressive PSHE curriculum.

A Whole-School Approach

We follow the Jigsaw PSHE curriculum, a comprehensive and mindful approach that supports children’s wellbeing, emotional literacy, and social skills. Jigsaw brings together PSHE, emotional development, and spiritual understanding in a way that is age-appropriate and engaging for all pupils.

PSHE is taught weekly across all year groups, with lessons tailored to the age, maturity and understanding of the children. The Jigsaw programme aligns with the PSHE Association Programme of Study, ensuring our curriculum meets national expectations while supporting the unique needs of our children.

Relationships and Health Education

Our school has a clear and thoughtful policy on Relationships Education, which is delivered through a gently progressive scheme of work. As children move through the school, they gain a deeper understanding of their bodies, including human reproduction, using correct vocabulary and in line with the National Curriculum.

Sex and Relationship Education is always taught within the context of family life, loving relationships, and mutual respect. Children are encouraged to ask questions, and teachers respond in a way that is appropriate to their age and level of maturity.

Working in Partnership with Parents

We value the partnership between home and school. Parents are given the opportunity to view teaching resources ahead of lessons and are welcome to meet with class teachers to discuss any aspect of the PSHE curriculum.

Whole-school approach

Jigsaw covers all areas of PSHE for the primary phase including statutory Relationships and Health Education. The table below gives the learning theme of each of the six Puzzles (units) and these are taught across the school; the learning deepens and broadens every year.
